The Bride In A Red Dress
Red dress wearing bride Krysia, a social worker working with women and children experiencing family violence, married her Robbie a music teacher and professional musician with MSO & OV at Fairfield Amphitheatre and looking up from where they stood they could see all of the faces of their loved family and friends.
Between the ceremony and reception, an afternoon tea by the boat house on the river behind the Amphitheatre was had. Robbie’s mum and her closest friends made tonnes of cakes, slices and cookies along with ice tea, mint/lavender water.
The reception at Fitzroy Town Hall with its high ceilings, large doors, pastel walls and wooden floors the feeling of lots of space to move and dance around was exactly what these newly weds wanted!
Robbie and Krysia wanted the town hall to really be a reflection and extension of them and their surroundings, so what else would you do but hire a removalist truck and take your lounge room furniture to your reception of course! Along with giving their stylist’s Ruby + James other little decorative items from their house.
When they arrived their house was all there! It was magical!
Name plates for the table settings were hand made by Kyrsia with sheets of aluminium and hand stamped (with metal letter presses) all of their guests names, then gluing them onto brown folded cardboard names places, along with the 260 handmade pom poms and 12 months of buying and collecting vintage dinner plates from savers and Vinnies/op shops. 132 plates from all over Victoria! And around 100 different sized and coloured glass/pottery vases and small bottles from savers – and the Ruby + James girls filled them all with beautiful flowers!
The inspiration for this stunning red dress started with the colour – Krysia’s Mum got married in red and has always been really proud of the fact that back when she got married!
The inspiration for the crop top with the netted skirt actually came from Bianca’s pink prom dress in 10 things I hate about you!
The catering was by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC). It meant so much to them that they were able to use the bulk of the cost from their wedding to support such an amazing organisation who work so tirelessly for a community of people who are seeking support and safety in our country and the food was amazing with everything being vegan, including the cake.
It was important to Robbie & Krysia that they worked with women – they wanted to bring women and their businesses in the creative industries to the front! It was phenomenal!
So here are a few words from our Bride.
“It’s so hard to pick a stand out vendor – they all worked so well with each other that it felt so seamless!
Our photographers Kat and Scout were phenomenal. From the moment we reached out to them by email to the time we got our photos we felt so included, valued in the process, and listened to.
Jess and Bec from Ruby + James were also a stand out. They went above and beyond to help us make our vision come true. It all seemed so easy to them, and they were so supportive of our ideas – helped us focus in on the good and supported us to move away from the not-so-good ideas we had! When we said lots of bright colours they took it and ran. It was fantastic, they gave us everything they had in them and it was just amazing.”
Advice for other couples planning a wedding?
“Just do the things that start out as a little idea and seem a little bit crazy, because it will give you the biggest sense of joy when you see the idea being loved by your family and friends.
Also – if you plan to do DIY, just tackle it slowly and gradually throughout the build up. The feeling that I felt when realising that I had 50 more pom poms to make with only 2 weeks left was CRAZY – I thought to myself whyyyyy did I do this! So the more time you start with the less pressure you feel with it. But it is totally worth it, because you see it all come to life on the day, and have great memories of doing it yourself!” Krysia
