Stones Throw to Beauty
Emma & Matthew at Stones of The Yarra Valley
“We both really wanted a wedding that was simple but elegant, full of beautiful flowers, soft lighting and a bit of a French feel. It was important to us that we made the day about things that we love, we want to be able to look back in 10, 20… 50 years’ time and have our day still feel timeless.
We went with beautiful lighting from chandeliers and candles; luxurious fabrics, velvets, tulles, suede; soft florals, ivy, ferns, and touches of greys, whites and warm metallics. We styled the whole wedding, and personally coordinated everything with our amazing suppliers, so it was particularly special to see all our hard work come to life on the day.
I have always loved the romantic French feel of soft fernery, ivy and chandeliers together. We got so many comments from guests on how elegant it was, and unlike anything they had seen at a wedding before.
We wanted a venue that felt like us and we looked for around 6 months. After a not so successful day of venue hunting, Matt suggested we visit Stones of the Yarra Valley, he had seen it on the internet, and neither of us had been there before. Well, it blew us away! I never thought Matt would be the one to find our dream wedding venue, normally that sort of thing is left up to me, so it was special that he was the one who found it for us!
The whole day was amazing, and of course seeing Matt at the end of the aisle is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen! But one of our favourite moments was right after the ceremony. As soon as we got married and exited the chapel, the heavens opened- and it poured! Our bridesmaids were holding the train of my dress to keep it out of the rain and protecting us with umbrellas, and the groomsmen were running in the rain with us. Everyone but Matt and I got soaked! I looked around and thought to myself how lucky am I to have this amazing husband, and these friends willing to weather the storm for us!
Everyone says to you ‘take it all in’, ‘it will be over in a second’ about the wedding day, and while that is great advice, and advice I heard on more than one occasion; my advice to other couples planning their wedding is to enjoy the process. Enjoy the cake tastings, venue hunting, do dance lessons together, laugh often and pop champagne regularly! Enjoy every minute along the way, it doesn’t have to be only about the wedding day!” Emma
